Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi Review
Last year, Netflix released an Indian true-crime docu-series, House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths, that found an audience on a global scale. The series is based on the demise of 11 family members in Delhi and was praised for its riveting writing and deep psychological exploration. The recently released Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi, on the other hand, lacks both in its writing and the exploration of the subject’s psyche, instead banking on the brutality of the serial killer at the center. This case was very disappointing for all.

The Indian Predator recounts the investigation into Chandrakant Jha, one of the most dangerous serial killers in the country’s history. he was convicted in 2013 for three dangerous killings between 2003 and 2007. This case’s popularity has made its place for several years, which also doesn’t favor the makers.

Just from the beginning, we get a glimpse into the mood that the documentary is going for with a
rudimentary montage of higher authorities giving every small piece of information. about a killer. Just after the opening of the monologue, we are introduced to a top cop who was handling this case.

On 20 October 2006, a mysterious caller informed the Delhi police that he had left a corpse near Gate 3 of the Tihar Jail. The cops found the mutilated body of a middle-aged man, which was neatly paved and kept inside a fruit basket

The story unravels into one of the most shocking investigations. Chandrakant, a normal migrant from Bihar is found to be the killer. While experts keep track of the investigations, we are repeatedly shown blood-splattering recreations of the murder. The actor who plays Chandrakant even looks at the part, but he hardly has anything to do.
TH second and third episodes do get better, especially as the investigation goes back to his roots, It is disappointing that we never get to see an actual mental health professional speak about Chandrakant and who he is.

The show tries to speak about the social-economic factors that played a role in Chandrakant’s life. This could have been an opportunity to explore the importance of mental health.
Further Indian Predators also clearly stay away from Chandrakant’s accusations of police brutality.
The series could have been a thrilling documentary that pushed this series to an extreme level where the popularity of this series will shock you.
